Unexpected Turn
This is Karen posting for Kathy.............on Friday Kathy had an appt for her 3rd treatment in the trial. After review of her symptoms with Dr. Miller the decision was made to further evaluate with a CTscan. That scan revealed a narrowing of the small intestine and distended colon. After discussion with Dr. Miller, Kathy was taken to surgery that evening. That surgery resulted in an ileosotomy. This of course removed her from the trial. Kathy was in a very weakened condition prior to surgery due to weeks of near nil nutrition. This procedure should allow her to eat, possibly as soon as tomorrow with release from hospital back to home maybe by Thursday where home care will be provided per her insurance company. Further ramifications of the surgery and additional decision making have been postponed for now.
Currently Kathy is unable to comfortably talk on the phone as she still has an NG tube. People can email if you'd like but her time on the computer has been very limited.
